After you move into a new house, you’ll likely see some sort of plumbing problem arise. Most of the time, these problems arise in the bathroom or the kitchen. Plumbing troubles are an expected part of home ownership. This article contains some information to help when that situation occurs. Noisy pipes that make squeaking or hammering sounds are an easy problem to fix. Exposed pipes need to be anchored. Pipes that are contained within the floors, walls and ceilings may need to be attended by a professional plumber. If a water pipe freezes, you should turn the on tap that is nearest to the pipe to ensure the water has a place to get out when the pipe thaws out. Letting the water drain out will relieve pressure in the frozen pipe, which will reduce the chances of it bursting and damaging your home. You should clean your septic tank every five years! This keeps the tank from developing a buildup of sediment, thereby preventing the septic system from backing up or failing altogether as a result. It will cost some to have the septic tank pumped, but it would cost much more to have it cleaned, repaired or replaced due to sewage back up. Use filters on all drains to prevent debris that might clog the pipes from getting through. Each time a filter is clogged, it should be cleaned. Those in the bathtub should be cleaned out periodically, as needed. Water that leaves behind pink or orange tinged stains has an excessive amount of iron. This is something that needs to be taken care of by water softener, which you can buy at a store, or have a company come out to your house and take care of it for you. Have all the plumbing repairs done in one visit. By doing so, you can save up enough money to pay for the repairs. It also costs less because most plumbers will charge you per hour and include a minimum rate for coming out. If you call them out multiple times, those charges for them coming out will add up quickly. Water that drains back into your dishwasher is likely due to an improper sink hook up. The hose that runs from your kitchen sink to your dishwasher needs to be positioned uphill, and then bend back downhill to prevent the water from each device mixing. Clean the aerator to fix low pressure problems in case you have sediment buildups. Remove the aerator, and then take it apart so it can be cleaned with a brush that has been dipped in vinegar. Finally, rinse off the aerator, put it back together and then reattach it to your faucet. By removing any grit, grime and debris from the aerator, the water pressure should significantly increase. If you get grout stuck in the plumbing, it’s going to be very difficult to remove by yourself. With a little effort, you can get some of the grout broken down and on its way down the line. Having plastic pipes rather metal pipes will work a lot better. Yet keep in mind that it is probably going to take professional work to eradicate this problem for you. Avoid using drain cleaners as much as possible. Drain cleaners contain harsh chemicals that can cause your pipes to corrode if you overuse them. Sometimes, finding a professional to fix a blocked drain is the best way to solve the problem. If you are having trouble removing clean out plugs, there are a couple ways in which to resolve this. The first method you can try is using a chisel with a hammer to get the fitting loose. Unfortunately, if you still cannot remove the plug, the only viable option left on the table is to bust right through the plug completely with the hammer and chisel. Always thoroughly check out plumbers before you decide to use their services. Some plumbers just don’t know how to handle certain tasks which could make the problem worse. Find some reviews of your local plumbers, or ask around to see if anyone has any recommendations or warnings. Calling a plumber for every issue will add up to a huge bill, so it’s important to deal with small plumbing issues yourself as they arise. Invest in the proper tools, and learn the proper techniques for common plumbing problems. If you’ve got a plumbing issue down the road, the tips you learned should help you a lot.
