What is a Backup Valve?

A backwater valve, also known as a sewer backup or backflow prevention valve, is a one-way device installed on the main sewer line that stops sewage from backing up into your home during heavy rain or overloaded sewer systems.

How it works?

  • Installed in your basement floor on the main sewer line

  • Contains a flap that opens to allow wastewater to flow out

  • Automatically closes when water tries to flow backward

  • Prevents city sewer backup from entering your home

Why Mississauga Homes Need One

  • Aging combined sewer system prone to overflows

  • Increasing frequency of heavy rainfall events

  • Many older homes lack backflow protection

  • Insurance may require or reward having one installed

Different types of Backwater Valves We Install

Normally Closed Valve

Opens only when water flows out, providing maximum protection against backflow.

Normally Open Valve

Stays open during normal use, closes when backflow is detected. Most common type.

Full-Port Gate Valve

Premium option with manual override and clear access cover for inspection.

What are Sewage Backup Causes in Mississauga Understanding the risks helps you see why thousands of Mississauga homeowners are installing backwater valves.

Heavy Rainfall Backups

Mississauga's combined sewer system can overflow during heavy storms, sending sewage back up through your drains.

Our Solution

When sewer levels rise, a backwater valve shuts off the line automatically, keeping raw sewage safely out of your basement.

Municipal System Overloads

Sewer backups can happen anytime, even without rain, due to city maintenance, clogs, or overloaded systems.

Our Solution

No matter the conditions in the municipal system, your home remains protected.

Aging Infrastructure

Several Mississauga communities rely on sewer systems built decades ago, making them more prone to breakdowns and backflow issues.

Our Solution

Aging municipal systems aren’t enough—safeguard your home yourself.

Tree Root Intrusion

Roots from nearby trees can block sewer pipes, causing backups that affect multiple households.

Our Solution

Protect your basement from backups that start in neighboring homes with a backwater valve.
