Project Cost Estimator

Basement Waterproofing Cost Calculator

Estimate the cost of basement waterproofing, foundation repairs, sump pump work, backwater valves, window wells and related water-management services. Add several items to build one combined project estimate.

How It Works

Build a Waterproofing Estimate in Three Steps

The calculator lets you estimate one service or combine several repairs when your project involves more than one water-management issue.

1

Select the Service

Choose interior waterproofing, exterior waterproofing, sump pump work, a backwater valve, crack repair or another listed service.

2

Enter the Project Details

Waterproofing estimates use linear footage and relevant project conditions. Other repairs use a fixed price or quantity range.

3

Build Your Total

Add additional services as needed. The calculator combines everything into one estimated project total that can also be printed.

Calculator Pricing

Waterproofing and Drainage Cost Guide

These are the pricing assumptions currently used by the calculator. They are useful for initial budgeting, but they are not a substitute for inspecting the actual property.

Exterior Basement Waterproofing

Pricing changes with excavation depth and is calculated by linear foot.

$120–$400 per linear foot

Interior Basement Waterproofing

Rate varies based on finished basement conditions and underpinning.

$80–$150 per linear foot

New Sump Pump Setup

Calculator base price for the listed sump pump service.

$2,400 calculator estimate

Sump Pump Battery Backup

Calculator estimate for the listed battery backup configuration.

$3,780 calculator estimate

Existing Sump Pump Replacement

Replacement estimate where an existing sump setup is already present.

$750 calculator estimate

Battery Backup for Existing Sump Pit

Calculator estimate for adding backup protection to an existing pit.

$1,600 calculator estimate

Interior Backwater Valve

Calculator base estimate for an interior backwater valve installation.

$2,100 calculator estimate

Exterior Backwater Valve

Calculator base estimate for the listed exterior installation.

$2,800 calculator estimate

Foundation Crack Repair

Estimated range per crack. Actual method depends on the crack and water source.

$1,800–$2,400 per crack

Spot Repair

Localized waterproofing or water-entry repair estimate.

$1,600–$3,200 per area

Window Well

Calculator range for each window well included in the project.

$1,600–$3,800 per unit

Egress Window

Calculator range for each egress window included in the estimate.

$3,200–$5,800 per unit
Project Variables

What Changes Basement Waterproofing Cost?

Two homes with the same amount of leaking foundation wall can require very different repair scopes. These are some of the main variables that can change the final cost.

01

Linear Footage

Interior and exterior waterproofing are commonly affected by the total length of foundation that requires work.

02

Excavation Depth

Deeper foundations require more excavation, labour, soil handling and site protection.

03

Exterior Access

Narrow side yards, decks, porches, utilities, landscaping and hardscape can change how exterior work must be performed.

04

Finished Basement

Interior access can involve opening finished walls or working around flooring, framing and other finished components.

05

Underpinning

An underpinned foundation can change the configuration and labour involved in an interior drainage installation.

06

Actual Water Source

A leaking crack, groundwater beneath the slab, failed drainage and sewer backup are different problems and should not receive the same repair.

Estimate vs. Inspection

Why the Calculator Is Not a Final Waterproofing Quote

A calculator can estimate cost from measurements and common project conditions. It cannot see what is behind a finished wall, determine why water is entering, inspect an existing drainage system or measure exterior access.

The most expensive mistake is choosing a repair based only on where water becomes visible. Water at a basement wall, floor joint, drain or sump pit can have different causes.

Use the calculator to establish a realistic budget range. Use an assessment to determine what actually needs to be repaired.

Calculator FAQ

Waterproofing Cost Questions

Important details to understand before using an online waterproofing estimate as a project budget.

How accurate is the waterproofing cost calculator?

The calculator is intended for preliminary budgeting. It applies the pricing assumptions shown on this page to the measurements and conditions you enter. An exact price requires inspection of the property and confirmation of the actual repair scope.

How much does basement waterproofing cost per linear foot?

The calculator currently uses $80 to $150 per linear foot for interior waterproofing depending on basement conditions, and $120 to $400 per linear foot for exterior waterproofing depending on excavation depth.

Why does exterior waterproofing cost more as excavation gets deeper?

Deeper excavation can require substantially more digging, soil handling, labour and site management. Access conditions can also become more important as excavation depth increases.

Why does the calculator ask whether the basement is finished?

Finished basement conditions can affect access and the amount of labour involved in an interior waterproofing project. The calculator uses different interior rates for finished and unfinished conditions.

Why does underpinning change the interior waterproofing estimate?

Underpinning changes the foundation and floor configuration around the perimeter of the basement. The calculator therefore applies a different rate where an underpinned wall is selected.

Why is there a minimum linear footage in the calculator?

The calculator applies a 20-foot minimum to exterior waterproofing estimates and a 15-foot minimum to interior waterproofing estimates. Enter your actual length and the calculator automatically applies the applicable minimum when required.

Can I calculate several waterproofing services together?

Yes. Add the first service to the estimate, select another service from the menu and add it as well. The calculator combines all added services into one estimated total.

Does the calculator include HST?

No. Calculator prices are shown in Canadian dollars before HST.

Is the calculator result a binding quote?

No. The result is an online preliminary estimate for budgeting purposes. It does not constitute a contract or final quotation. Final scope and pricing must be confirmed after the property and repair requirements are assessed.

What can cause the final price to differ from the calculator?

Factors can include excavation depth, restricted access, finished basement materials, underpinning, existing drainage conditions, foundation construction, previous repairs, hidden damage and work that becomes necessary after the actual water source is identified.

Ready to Turn the Estimate Into an Exact Quote?

Tell us what is happening in the basement. Canada Waterproofers can assess the source of the water and determine whether the property needs waterproofing, drainage work, a foundation repair, sump system work or another solution.
