Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy Program May 1st 2026 updated
The City of Toronto offers subsidies to help homeowners protect their basements from flooding by installing flood protection devices.
Eligible Items and Rebates
- NEW Backwater valve installation Up to $1,600 For up to 2 devices per property for a Total of $3,200
- Sump pump installation Up to $2,250
- NEW Sump pump battery backup power Up to $300
- Pipe severance and capping Up to $400
- NEW Home Plumbing assessment, Contractors with a T85 License are NOT ELIGIBLE, Must hold a T94 license or equivalent as CANADA WATERPROOFERS holds. Up to $500
Requirements
- Property must be in the City of Toronto
- Must be a residential property (1-6 units)
- Work must be done by a licensed contractor,
- Contractor must hold T94 License or Equivalent as a T85 license does no qualify
- Permits must be obtained before work begins

Peel Region Backwater Valve Subsidy
The Region of Peel provides financial assistance to Brampton homeowners for installing backwater valves to prevent basement flooding.
Eligible Items and Rebates
- Backwater valve installation Up to $1,500
Requirements
- Property must be in Brampton (Region of Peel)
- Must be owner-occupied residential
- Work completed by licensed contractor
- Valid building permit required
Peel Region Backwater Valve Subsidy
Mississauga residents can access the Region of Peel's subsidy program for backwater valve and sump pump installations to protect against sewer backup.
Eligible Items and Rebates
- Backwater valve installation Up to $1,500
- Sump pump installation Up to $6,000
- Weeping tile capping Up to $1000
Requirements
- Property must be in Mississauga (Region of Peel)
- Residential property only
- Licensed contractor required
- Building permit must be obtained
Halton Region Basement Flooding Prevention Subsidy
Halton Region offers Burlington homeowners subsidies for installing protective plumbing devices to reduce the risk of basement flooding.
Eligible Items and Rebates
- Backwater valve Up to $675
- Sump pump and weeping tile disconnect Up to $5,000
- Sewer lateral (pipe) lining or repair $2000
- Downspout disconnection $500
- Combined installation Up to $8,175

- Property in Burlington (Halton Region)
- Single-family or semi-detached home
- Must use licensed plumber
- Pre-approval recommended
